FAQs About Meets

1. Why swim in a meet?

Meets are GREAT fun! Our meets are not about points, but about improvement.

2. How do we sign up?

In order to sign up for the meet, you must reply to the meet announcement. We use POSITIVE check-in for meets. Standard responses-- 1- My swimmers will swim in the meet; 2- My swimmer can only swim on Saturday (or Sunday); 3- My swimmer is scheduled to swim in the morning session, but we can't be there until 10am. Please only enter my swimmer in events at the end of the session.
Our meets are very flexible:)

3. Who can swim in meets?

Stroke School swimmers cannot participate in meets.
Yellow swimmers can participate in local meets.
White, Red and Blue swimmers can participate in any meet.

4. How are meets organized?

Most meets are organized by age group and time standard. The Basic Age Groups are 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16-17-18.
Variations- 10 & under, 12 & under, senior (13 and over), 14 & under
The Time Standards are set by USA swimming. The Time Standards vary by male/female and by age (10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18). We have the time standards so that swimmers swim against swimmers with similar skills and to give the swimmers some set goals. If a swimmer makes a time standard they get a patch at the GSA awards banquet.
The Basic Time Standards are C, B, BB, A, AA, AAA, AAAA, top 16.
For a swimmer to go from B/C to a BB swimmer, they need two BB cuts in two different strokes.

5. When do we swim?

Meets are usually on Saturday and Sunday. The meet is split into sessions during the day. Age and/or time standard dictate in which session you swim. NC swimming rules state that a session cannot take more than 4 hours plus warm up. A Standard schedule is-- 7:30-8:30 warm up with the session ending at 12noon and the afternoon session with a 12noon-1pm warm up ending around 5pm. Please note this schedule is just to give you an idea--- the exact timing varies by meet.

6. What do they swim?

The coaches will pick the swimmer's events. The swimmer can swim 4 or 5 events a day. The number varies with each meet. Relays are determined at the meet. We will announce who is on the relays at the meet. The swimmers need to check in with the coach before they leave a meet...just to make sure that all is done:)
With the number of events that a swimmer can swim and the fact that we can enter everyone in the same event, our meets are very flexible.

7. How do I pay?

The meet fees will be billed to your account after the meet. If your child is entered in the meet you are responsible for the meet fees.
